Three of the greatest names in American music history – Joan Baez, Smokey Robinson and the Beach Boys – headline the “Summer Concert Series at the Queen Mary” in Harry Bridges Memorial Park.
The series kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Fri., Aug. 13 with folk music legend Joan Baez and special guest Roger McGuinn. Motown giant Smokey Robinson performs at 8 p.m. Wed., Aug. 18 and the Beach Boys, Southern California’s legendary rock band, appear at 8 p.m. Thurs., Aug. 19.
In addition, three-time Grammy award-winning folk-rock artist Lucinda Williams and special guests JP, Chrissie and The Fairground Boys will be featured at 7:30 p.m. Thurs., Aug. 26. Additional shows and dates will be announced soon. The Queen Mary is hosting the concerts as part of the summer-long 2110 Long Beach Sea Festival.
Tickets for the Baez, Robinson and Beach Boys show are $35 (lawn seating) and $65 for reserved seats (plus parking) and are available through Ticketmaster or online at www.queenmary.com. All tickets are on sale now.
The 17TH Annual Crawfish Festival will celebrate the unique spirit of Louisiana’s Cajun Country Saturday and Sunday, August 7-8, in Rainbow Lagoon.
A 2010 Long Beach Sea Festival event, the Crawfish Festival will feature the best of Cajun, Zydeco and New Orleans music and tons of fresh crawfish prepared Louisiana-style and served by Cajun chefs, making it the largest Crawfish Festival outside of Louisiana.
The two-day event will also feature a children’s area, live TV sports tent, dance floor, beach bar, arts and crafts booths and a giant food court offering international food, including Chinese, Thai and Jamaican dishes.
Two stages will spotlight the special New Orleans sound from a wide variety of performers, including the Mark St. Mary Louisiana Blues and Zydeco Band (Sat.) and Step Rideau and the Zydeco Outlaws (Sun.).

More than 1,000 kids from throughout the greater Long Beach area will enjoy a day at Claremont Beach Friday, Aug. 6 at “Capture the Wind” All-City Beach Day presented by the Long Beach Airport and supported by the Port of Long Beach.
A 2010 Long Beach Sea Festival Event, Capture the Wind Beach Day features kite flying and includes a variety of water and sand activities from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. organized by the Community Recreation Services, Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine. Beach activities will include swimming, lunch, a disc jockey, contests and of course, kite flying.

Long Beach’s Marine Stadium – the birthplace of powerboat racing on the West Coast – will host the Long Beach Sprint Nationals weekend of the American Powerboat Association National Championships Saturday and Sunday, August 7 and 8.
More than 100 of the nation’s fastest boats will compete in 12 classes, including flat bottom (the famed “Crackerbox” boats), V-Bottom, Tunnel, Jet Boats and PWC, with some craft hitting speeds of to 120 mph.
The event also features a vendor midway with food, beverages, souvenirs and a beer garden. Racing pits will also be open to the public to meet the drivers and inspect the boats.
Gates open at 8 a.m. and racing begins at 9 a.m. each day.
Tickets for the Sprint Nationals, a 2010 Long Beach Sea Festival event, are $15 for adults, with children under 10 free. Military personnel with valid I.D. are also admitted free. Parking is $10.

Long Beach Kids Connection will host its 3rd Annual Taste of the Coast Sunday, August 1 from 3-7 p.m. on the Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier. The fundraising event, part of the 2010 Long Beach Sea Festival, supports high quality, no-cost child care and preschool for children experiencing homelessness in Long Beach through “Children Today.” In 2009, Taste of the Coast raised more than $45,000.
Taste of the Coast include tasteful delights from more than 40 Long Beach restaurants, live music, fireboat show, beer and wine garden, kids activities and more. Ticket prices are: $50 Adults, $20 Teens, $10 Child (12 and under).
The goal of “Children Today” is to increase the safety, stability and confidence of children facing homelessness and provide quality early care and education programs absolutely free of charge.
