Civil War Reenactment

EL DORADO PARK TO HOST
CIVIL WAR REENACTMENT

The sounds of cannon and gunfire will echo through El Dorado Park Saturday and Sunday, July 30-31, as more
than 750 people will re-enact the sights and sounds of America’s Civil War, with this year marking the
150th anniversary of the start of the war. Civil War reenactment groups from throughout California will be
re-creating this important piece of American history with 12 cannons, more than 50 mounted cavalry and “battles”
– using the same tactics utilized during the Civil War -- staged each day at noon and 3 p.m. 
The event, a part of the 2011 Long Beach Sea Festival and sponsored by Waste Management and Alfredo’s
Beach Club, is the largest reenactment ever held in this area, and the second largest of its kind west
of the Mississippi.  In addition to battle re-creations, visitors can tour replicas of a civil war camps
and period hospital and enjoy living history lectures and speeches, with all participants in replica Civil
War costumes and uniforms. The Civil War Reenactment will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. 
Admission prices are:  Adults $14; Seniors (62+) $12; Kids 11 and under, $7; kids 4 and under, free,
and Scouts in uniform are half-price. El Dorado Park admission is $7 per carload.

Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival

15TH ANNUAL DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL TO
FEATURE INTERNATIONAL, COLLEGE TEAMS

More than 110 entries will churn up the waters of Marine Stadium Saturday and Sunday, July 30-31, in the 15th Annual
Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival. Entries include teams from China, Canada, Macao, the U.S. Midwest and East Coast
and 25 collegiate teams – including the University of California, UCLA, USC, UC Irvine and UC San Diego --
from the International Collegiate Dragon Boat Federation.       
Each entry features 18-20 paddlers in brightly-decorated boats, with races – each of which is accompanied by the
beating of a traditional drum -  running from 9 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m. each day.  Races include distances of
500 meters, 200 meters and a special 2,000 meter circle race, part of the Collegiate World Championships.
Admission is free for the weekend, which also includes traditional Chinese art and music, acrobats, Lion Dancing,

Taste of the Coast

TASTE OF THE COAST FUNDRAISER
TO BENEFIT ‘CHILDREN TODAY’

Long Beach Kids Connection will host its 4th Annual Taste of the Coast Sunday, July 31 from 3-8 p.m. on the Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier.
The fundraising event, supports high quality, no-cost child care and preschool for children experiencing homelessness in Long Beach through “Children Today,” Long Beach Day Nursery and other charities.  In the past three years, Taste of the Coast has raised more than $100,000.
Taste of the Coast, includes tasteful samplings from more than 40 Long Beach restaurants and live entertainment that includes Delta Nova, Crossover and the Golden Sands Chorus. 
Also included are Nater the Inflator balloon man, a beer and wine garden, kids activities and more. Ticket prices are: $50 (adults); $20 (ages 13 thru 19) and $10 (kids 12 and under).  
The goal of “Children Today” is to increase the safety, stability and confidence of children facing homelessness and provide quality early care and education programs absolutely free of charge.

CRAWFISH FESTIVAL BRINGS ’CAJUN
COUNTRY’ TO LONG BEACH JULY 30-31

The 18TH Annual Crawfish Festival will celebrate the unique spirit of Louisiana’s Cajun Country Saturday and Sunday, July 30-31,
in Rainbow Lagoon.  A 2011 Long Beach Sea Festival event, the Crawfish Festival will feature the best of Cajun, Zydeco and New Orleans
music and tons of fresh crawfish prepared Louisiana-style and served by Cajun chefs, making it the largest Crawfish Festival outside of Louisiana. The two-day event, open from noon-11 p.m. Sat. and noon-10 p.m. Sun.,  will also feature a children’s area, live TV sports tent,  dance floor, beach bar, arts and crafts booths and a giant food court offering  international food, including Chinese, Thai and Jamaican dishes.  Two stages will spotlight the special New Orleans sound from a wide variety of performers.  Special pre-sale ticket prices and full event information are available on-line

Pre-sale prices (held at will-call) are:  admission only - $13; admission and crawfish feast served by Bristol Farms - $25 (a $5 saving). 
All active duty U. S. military personnel will receive free general admission.  Tickets will also be available on-site.
