EL DORADO PARK TO HOST
CIVIL WAR REENACTMENT
The sounds of cannon and gunfire will echo through El Dorado Park Saturday and Sunday, July 30-31, as more
than 750 people will re-enact the sights and sounds of America’s Civil War, with this year marking the
150th anniversary of the start of the war. Civil War reenactment groups from throughout California will be
re-creating this important piece of American history with 12 cannons, more than 50 mounted cavalry and “battles”
– using the same tactics utilized during the Civil War -- staged each day at noon and 3 p.m.
The event, a part of the 2011 Long Beach Sea Festival and sponsored by Waste Management and Alfredo’s
Beach Club, is the largest reenactment ever held in this area, and the second largest of its kind west
of the Mississippi. In addition to battle re-creations, visitors can tour replicas of a civil war camps
and period hospital and enjoy living history lectures and speeches, with all participants in replica Civil
War costumes and uniforms. The Civil War Reenactment will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
Admission prices are: Adults $14; Seniors (62+) $12; Kids 11 and under, $7; kids 4 and under, free,
and Scouts in uniform are half-price. El Dorado Park admission is $7 per carload.
Food and beverage will be available on-site from Alfredo’s Beach Club.
